‘I didn’t feel sorry for him’ – Demba Ba discusses his famous Chelsea goal after Liverpool skipper’s slip

Demba Ba has given an exclusive interview to The Sun, during which he discusses THAT goal he scored against Liverpool back in 2014.

Think back to that time, with a Brendan Rodgers led Liverpool battling Manchester City for the Premier League crown.

Liverpool had never won the Premier League, but the exciting, offensive style of play Rodgers had instilled turned them into a force.

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were unstoppable, with Philippe Coutinho was providing the creative spark. They were undeniably exciting to watch.

You know the story all too well. Chelsea visited Anfield, with Jose Mourinho’s sole intention to put a stop to the title party – and he pulled it off.

Steven Gerrard slipped on his back-side, allowing Demba Ba through on goal to finish expertly past Simon Mignolet.

Chelsea won the game 2-0, with the wheels falling off of Liverpool’s title charge. Five years on, the trophy has still eluded them.

Liverpool are stronger now than they were before, but with Chelsea heading to Anfield in April in similar circumstances, the comparison is there to be made.

The Sun have been rather clever in the timing of this interview with Ba, who etched his name into Premier League history with that goal following that slip.

He marred Gerrard’s glittering career in merely a moment, but he doesn’t appear to feel any remorse (or care even remotely), as he revealed to The Sun:

“I didn’t feel sorry for him. I’m not a Steven Gerrard supporter. I’m not a Liverpool supporter. I’m not a Man City supporter or happy that they won the league.”

In fact, Ba went on to tell The Sun that he goal he holds in higher regard was his late winner against PSG in the Champions League:

“When you talk about the one I scored against Paris, it’s great because it was the goal that took us to the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

We don’t believe for a second that Ba isn’t at least a little proud of what he did on that day. It wasn’t just any other goal, it held such significance.

Ba will forever remain an iconic player for the finish – which makes us wonder who will be writing their name into the history books tomorrow afternoon…
