Chelsea send scouts to watch €120M Benfica wonderkid bag record Europa League hat-trick

Chelsea were one of a host of top European clubs with representatives in attendance at the Estádio da Luz to watch Benfica starlet João Félix dazzle on Thursday night, according to AS.

Félix became the youngest player ever to net a Europa League hat-trick after firing three past Eintracht Frankfurt.

Coincidentally, the eventual winner of the tie will be facing Chelsea in the semi-finals of the competition. If we make it past Slavia Prague, that is.

With Benfica holding the advantage heading into the second-leg, Félix could be provided with another opportunity to impress the Europe’s elite – this time at Stamford Bridge.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Chelsea have seen him in action, however, at least that’s what Spanish publication AS believe.

Their report claims that Chelsea were one of nine teams, including Arsenal and both Manchester clubs, to send scouts to watch Félix face Frankfurt on Thursday.

Something tells us that they will have been impressed with what they saw.

AS’ understanding is that the 19-year-old is valued in the region of £100M (€120M, to be precise), which is an astronomical amount, but a worthy investment if he were to fulfil his potential.
