Update on future of Chelsea attacker with contract due to expire this summer

Turkish Football have rubbished claims that Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is in talks to sign for Fenerbahce this summer.

Giroud’s future with us has been under the spotlight, with the 18-month deal he signed last winter due to expire in just a few months time.

However, the Frenchman has been of great use to Maurizio Sarri this term, it would seem bizarre to allow him to walk out the door on a free.

We’d like to see Giroud be offered an opportunity to stay, which is why it’s reassuring to hear that it appears likely to materialise.

Turkish Football claim that Giroud is not in talks with Fenerbahce, nor does he have any intention of leaving London and moving to Turkey.

The belief is that the World Cup winner is happy at Chelsea and wants to stay, with us having an option to extend his deal if we so wish.

Giroud is not a striker who’s going to win you the title, but long and arduous campaigns are easier to contend with when you have players of his quality in reserve.

Even with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi itching for opportunities, Giroud has done enough in his short time here to warrant an extension to his contract.

Get it done, Marina.
