In what is painful reading for any diehard Chelsea fan, the club go on to explain how the recent run of results have forced them to make this decision, but they also gush over Lampard being a club icon.

There are even some rare words from club owner Roman Abramovich, which really does show how serious this decision was.

Roman Abramovich said,
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him’.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

Heart-breaking news, and there are a lot of upset Chelsea fans out there right now off the back of this.

We were expecting Lampard to get more time at the very least to try and turn this around, and fans voiced their opinions with a banner at Stamford Bridge backing Lampard yesterday, but even that was not enough to keep him in a job.

Chelsea say there will be no further comment from them until a replacement is confirmed.

Sad sad day to be Chelsea indeed.
