Chelsea linked with world-class centre-forward – but there’s questions to be asked

The Mirror have today published a (rather improbable) report linking Chelsea with a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

Chelsea have a problem in attack, this is hardly breaking news.

We hoped that the acquisition of Gonzalo Higuain would help bridge the goal-scoring gap between ourselves and our rivals, but he’s struggled thus far.

It would come as a surprise to few if the club considered recruiting a new striker as a priority, but it’s difficult to imagine that Lewandowski will be the man.

Not only, at the time of writing, are we unable to make transfers, but the Mirror’s report claims that Lewandowski would cost in the region of £70M.

Chelsea have a club policy of only offering a one-year contract to players over the age of 30, with Lewandowski turning 31 later this year.

It seems highly unlikely that we would pump £70M into a player who could walk out the door on a free transfer the following summer.

Signing Lewandowski would be a dream for any Chelsea fan, no doubt, but don’t get his name printed on the back of your shirt just yet.
