Callum Hudson-Odoi looked frustrated – but we don’t know why

The look on Callum Hudson-Odoi’s face said it all.

The camera leapt to the Chelsea bench just as Olivier Giroud was brought on as their third sub, meaning Callum would not be featuring today.

He had warmed up vigorously at times, but in the end the need to replace the struggling Gonzalo Higuain and the fact that Eden Hazard had started on the bench meant that the youngster didn’t get a chance.

Maurizio Sarri assured journalists in the week that the youngster was going to get some starts, but those are likely to come in the Europa League, and not in games where even Hazard only got 40 minutes.

Whether playing Slavia Prague in a couple of games will be enough to persuade the wonderkid that his future is best served by staying at the club isn’t clear. He certainly looked unhappy as the camera lapped up his frown on the bench. But the team were losing at that point, and he was hardly going to be grinning.

The way the result turned round means nobody can be too unhappy with events in the end, even if he likely is a little frustrated.
