Why Chelsea’s Europa League game suddenly means so much

Chelsea take on Malmo in the Europa League tomorrow night, a trip most fans were looking forward to purely for the chance to get to visit Stockholm in the winter.

But now this game, previously considered just an inconvenient midweek training match to get out of the way before we actually draw someone decent in this infernal competition, actually has some meaning.

It will be the first time we see the players and manager since their humiliation by Manchester City, and we will know a huge amount about how they will respond to that tragedy just from how they play in the early stages tomorrow.

A lot of the players will be different, but the attitude from whoever is on the pitch should be perfect after what they put the fans through on Sunday.

There will be young players playing too, who have a chance to show the boss that they can do better than the clowns he sent out at the weekend. Hopefully we see something out there that’s even more comforting than the wintry streets of the Swedish capital.
