Chelsea announce Thiago Silva will join Fluminense after final game of the season

Chelsea have confirmed Thiago Silva will join Brazilian side Fluminense after the club’s final game of the season against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Silva announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign after four years in west London, following his arrival on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain in 2020.

The 39-year-old was a key part of the side which won Chelsea’s second Champions League title in Porto in 2021 and the side that won the Club World Cup for the first time in the Blue’s history.

Chelsea confirm Silva will join Fluminense

It had been reported last week the Brazilian had agreed to rejoin the club where his career started, but there hadn’t been any confirmation from Chelsea.

The Blues have now confirmed the Brazilian will join Fluminense after the final game of the season, and have agreed with him that he can join up early and train with his new team-mates.

Silva will finish his career at Fluminense where it began.

Silva has signed a two year deal with the Brazilian club and his registration will transfer on the 1st July.

The veteran centre back has formed a tight bond with the Chelsea supporters during his time in west London, and has embraced everything it means to play for the club.

As well as the team trophies, Silva was named the club’s Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 season.

He will leave Chelsea having made over 150 appearances for the Blues, and has three games remaining as a Chelsea player.

Silva is reportedly going to be named as captain for the last game against Bournemouth, and it’s sure to be an emotional send off come full time as the club say goodbye to a legend who has made more of an impact than anyone would have thought.
