(Video): Agony as VAR ruled out 96th minute winner for Chelsea

Chelsea fans have just had their hearts ripped out by VAR.

Axel Disasi came on as a late sub and thought he’d won the game when he headed home from a cross following a corner.

It was certainly a bit of a shunt on Diego Carlos from Benoit Badiashile, but the referee didn’t think it was enough to rule it out initially.

Maybe he didn’t get a clear view on the pitch? After looking at the replay, he did rule it a foul.

Badiashile then had the space to swing the ball back in, and Disasi rose highest to head it in. But after wild celebrations initially, it was taken away from us.

Whatever you think of the decision, we can all agree that VAR has once again sucked the joy out of another game.

  1. The worst thing about this call is that you see at least a dozen shoves and bear hugs in the box committed by defenders on corner kicks every weekend and neither the referee nor VAR give the call because they don’t want to award a penalty. I don’t have a problem with them calling Badiashile for the shove (he clearly commits one) so long as they call all of the other fouls. But it’s the ridiculous and obvious inconsistency on what constitutes a foul in the box that is so maddening. Based on all of the other physical play that is permitted on set pieces delivered into the box this goal should have been allowed to stand.
