Two Chelsea regulars added to injury list and three others likely to miss Monday as club slump back to fitness hell

Chelsea have been gradually improving on the injury front, and the last few weeks have seen them reach a high water mark in terms of players available.

Well, you can forget all that now because today’s injury update from the club has just added two players to the injury list, and ruled out three others from appearing on Monday.

The minor part first – we were hoping that Levi Colwill or Ben Chilwell would be back for Monday’s game. That now looks unlikely – Chilwell is only in “partial team training” according to the update, while Colwill is still in his “rehabilitation programme.”

You can add Raheem Sterling to the very doubtful list as he was absent due to “illness.”

None of them are definitely out given the game isn’t until Monday, but they all feel likely to miss it.

The really bad news

Then we’re on to the seriously bad stuff. Axel Disasi and Enzo Fernandez have been two of the most reliable players in the squad in terms of injury. Neither has missed significant game time all season despite racking up a lot of minutes since August.

But now both are on the list, with the tag “underdoing medical assessment.”

That could be very serious, it could be very minor. But given our luck this season, we’re not too confident. If we were to be missing that pair, plus Chilwell, Colwill and Sterling, plus all the usual absentees, we really will be back to breaking point once again.

We will hope to find out more from Mauricio Pochettino in his press conference to come later this afternoon.
