TalkSPORT pundit ranks Chelsea star as third best performer in the Premier League this season

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes Chelsea have a player performing better than Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka this season.

Despite spending most of the campaign in mid-table, there has been one standout performer at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer has been a revelation since his move from Manchester City last summer, and he has quickly established himself as Chelsea’s go to man.

The 21-year-old has scored 20 Premier League goals, putting him level with former team-mate Erling Haaland at the top of the goalscoring charts.

His form has seen him become a full England international, and he has given himself a very good chance of making Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the Euros in Germany this summer.

Palmer’s absence was felt on Tuesday night as Chelsea crashed to a heavy defeat against Arsenal, but he’s fit and available for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa.

The former City man is seen as one of the favourites to win the PFA Young Player of The Year award, but if he carries on impressing he could be in with a chance of the main award.

Agbonlahor believes Palmer has been the third best performer in the league this season behind Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard.

“Number 3, Cole Palmer”, he told talkSPORT.

“For me, when he left Man City, I was thinking it might take him a season, but he has been outstanding, 20 Premier League goals, when you watch him, he looks better every game he is playing in.

“You talk about Tim Sherwood’s interview with him where he says can the rest of the team get to your standards, sort of thing.

“Everyone sort of went against Tim Sherwood, and he was right. Look, No Cole Palmer against Arsenal, no Chelsea. So, Chelsea really rely on Cole Palmer.”

Palmer will have a key role to play over the last six games of the season as Chelsea look to qualify for European football next season.
