OFFICIAL: Chelsea complete Cole Palmer signing

Chelsea have completed the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City, the club have just announced on their official website.

The last 48 hours saw a sudden escalation, and a target who had barely been mentioned at all just a matter of weeks ago is now a Blue. Palmer signs a 7 year deal, and had the following to say as the club announced him:

“I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign. I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.”

Our co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley followed up with their own comments:

“He has showcased his talent and potential in the most challenging environments and delivered on the international stage for England this summer at the European Under-21 Championships. He is undoubtedly ready for this next step and we are delighted it will be with Chelsea.”

Palmer is an attacking midfielder who can complete for minutes at number 10 or down the right in Mauricio Pochettino’s current setup. He’s barely played at Man City, but has looked brilliant in the England youth teams.

From what we’ve heard, this will complete Chelsea’s squad in terms of incoming players, and it’s just matter of trying to sell as much dead-wood as possible through the rest of today. It will be very interesting to see who stays and who goes.
