“I do like playing there” – Cole Palmer gives verdict on playing in one position

New Chelsea signing Cole Palmer has given his verdict on how he feels about playing in one position in particular.

Palmer joined from Manchester City this summer in the final week of the transfer window, and he has just been over with the England U21 team on international duty.

For England he was deployed as a midfielder, more of a number 8. And it actually was the position he was mainly playing when he did come on for Chelsea against Nottingham Forest before the national break.

He can play anywhere across the front three, whether it is wide or in the 10 role. But operating as more of a midfielder is somewhere he might really thrive.

Palmer has been speaking about playing in that position after the England game on Monday night, and he says that he does like playing there but he needs to perhaps learn the role a bit more.

In words cited by The Daily Mail, Palmer said: “I do like playing there [in midfield]. There is a lot of extra responsibility and I need to work on parts of my game where I need to improve so I can go to the next level.”
