Glen Johnson answers whether Malo Gusto can be the next Reece James

Reece James will soon be returning from yet another injury that has kept him out for a relatively significant period.

It’s something that has become far too common for James in his career so far, and the club, the player, and the fans will be hoping it is something he soon grows out of. Being injury prone can ruin careers.

And as well as that, Chelsea have just made James the permanent new club captain. Blues fans love him and just want him to be fit. Hopefully he will return very soon again, but he’s not been spotted in training this week so perhaps the Bournemouth game this Sunday comes too soon.

Even still, all these injuries, as well as rumoured interest from Real Madrid, has sparked conversations as to whether new signing Malo Gusto can step up in James’ absence, or if he did ever end up leaving Chelsea.

Glen Johnson was asked this, and in words cited by Football365, replied: “It’s a bit too early to say. From what I’ve seen of him, he’s very technically gifted and quick, but I’ve not seen enough of him to say that if Reece James left Chelsea in the near future, that Malo would seamlessly fill the void.

“You see a lot of players come to the Premier League, play ten games and you never see them again, so you can never predict what’s going to happen.

“However, it looks like Malo has a lot of potential but is he going to be the next Reece? Time will tell. Right now, he certainly looks as if he’s going to be a good player.”
