Chelsea have just announced on their official website that Andrey Santos has completed a loan move to Nottingham Forest.
At times this summer the Brazil youngster looked like he was going to make up part of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, but the arrivals in quick succession of Lesley Ugochukwu, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have meant that a loan is the only sensible option for Santos now.
The 19 year old has an exceptional amount of first team experience for a player of his age, but it’s mostly come in the Brazilian second tier, and adapting to English football is an important next stage in his development.
Let’s hope Forest prove to be the right choice. He’s certainly good enough to play regularly there, but teams battling relegation often prefer older and more experienced players if they’re struggling, so there’s a small element of risk there too.
