“I am not selling smoke” – Pochettino answers whether Chelsea aim to win the Premier League

Chelsea have just finished an unbeaten pre-season run after five games played.

There is a chance that they play one more behind closed doors friendly match, but in terms of the high profile games, Dortmund over night marked the end of those ahead of the new season starting for Chelsea next weekend.

Chelsea drew 1-1 against Dortmund after and equalising goal from young striker Mason Burstow. And now they prep for next weekend’s Premier League opener against Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino was satisfied with the pre-season performances out in the USA, and he was taking questions from reporters after the Dortmund game over night.

One of them asked him whether it is the aim for Chelsea to win the Premier League this season, and Pochettino certainly didn’t hide away with his response.

“We are going to try and win. I am not selling smoke. Chelsea has to try and win. And I’ll tell you if it was possible at the end of the season.”

Good answer really. The Premier League is the toughest league in the world, and Chelsea are not challenging for it next season if you ask my opinion. But it’s great to hear of the ambition as well as the reality in his answer.
