“Checking him” – Yet another injury concern to key Chelsea player

Chelsea have yet another injury concern to contend with after playing their final game of the pre-season campaign.

The Blues drew 1-1 with Dortmund over the USA after an equaliser came from young striker Mason Burstow. This marked an unbeaten pre-season for Mauricio Pochettino and his team.

Sources: Latest on Kudus, Olise, Broja, Madueke, and Chalobah!

But it wasn’t all good news and unfortunately, after recently being told that he will be without defender Wesley Fofana for a chunk of this season through a serious injury, Pochettino now has to sweat on the condition of new signing Christopher Nkunku, who has done something to his knee over night in the Dortmund game.

The pitch was very rough after an Ed Sheeran concert had fans on the pitch at the weekend, and that might have played a part. But Pochettino didn’t want to draw too much on that when taking questions on the severity of the injury after the game.

He said: “The doctors are checking him [Nkunku] and I hope it’s not a big issue. He fell in the action… and he feels something in knee but we hope it’s nothing big and he can be back quickly. We need a few days to assess.

“It’s not about complaining but always we take some risk because the pitch is not perfect. That’s sometimes the risk of the tour. I think it’s an unlucky situation, we cannot complain about the pitch, and why he suffered the injury.”
