Kai Havertz has big Chelsea decision to make as club leaves ball in his court

Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz has a big decision to make on his future this summer as we tick closer to the transfer window opening this month.

Havertz has been one of those Chelsea players who has had a question mark over his head for some time really, due to not really being consistently good enough in a Chelsea shirt and many Blues fans being content if he ended up leaving.

Havertz himself has always been a bit up and down really in what he wants to do and we have seen many reports that he is considering his future.

Well, it’s coming to crunch time, and Havertz has a decision to make now.

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea want Kai Havertz to sign a new contract that will significantly extend his stay in London, otherwise they will look to do business with potential suitors.

This is obviously off the back of heavy interest coming in from Real Madrid this last week, and the expectation is that Havertz would be keen to move there. So let’s see what happens with this one in the next week or so.

  1. How can you say Havertz “has always been a bit up and down” when he’s been consistently played out of position (at the 9)?!

Havertz never was, and never will be, a #9. So, why are we judging him as one? Would it be fair to deem Kepa a failure if he was played at right back for two years, or Reece James if we stuck him between the sticks and then criticized him for failing to keep clean sheets? Of course not! And this business of criticizing Havertz for his shortcomings as a striker is equally asinine.

He’s been deployed up top because we’ve got no better options and it’s a waste of time (as well as a disservice to the player) to rate his performance at the #9 as anything other than “better than anyone else in the squad could have done.”
