(Video): Jamie Carragher fears for Graham Potter after slew of signings

Jamie Carragher has just done a quick interview with Sky Sports, and of course Chelsea were top of their agenda.

He was asked about our ongoing transfer frenzy, and he pointed out that he would very much like to hear Graham Potter’s thoughts on it. Yes he will have new, better players, but how on earth is he supposed to go about building a team mid-season, with so much turnover? How is he supposed to manage such a bloated squad’s morale?

We’re sure he’s had sign off on these moves – but how much say does he really have?

You can see Carragher speaking in the clip embedded here:

  1. Doesn’t it stand to reason that Potter and the owners have discussed this and that the ownership has likely expressed their understanding that this is a heavy lift they’ve handed him. Every public comment the owners have made seems to indicate that Potter’s job is secure in the short to mid-term precisely because the owners understand he can’t possibly re-shape this team overnight?

Let’s also keep in mind that the tempo of these changes was likely kicked into overdrive not because Boehly & Co wanted to make Potter’s life tougher, but because UEFA suddenly (and arbitrarily) decided to try and close the so-called transfer loophole on these long-term deals. Before that, at least some of this business probably could have waited until the summer.
