New Chelsea director taking the lead on potential Marcus Thuram deal

Chelsea are looking to try and sign some more players this month as we race through the January transfer window.

We are into the double figures in the month now, and that means that time is gradually running out to get signings done. However, there is still plenty of time left and as the Joao Felix move proves, these deals CAN get done quick if you need them to be. Felix is set to be announced by Chelsea very soon, after accelerating the move to sign him on Monday.

Another attacker is still on the cards, even with Felix arriving, and that is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram, who enjoyed a decent impact role for France at the World Cup recently.

Thuram is being ‘explored’ this window by Chelsea, according to insider Ben Jacobs in his latest exclusive weekly column for Si & Dan Talk Chelsea.

Jacobs went through a lot in this one, but he also explained the new recruitment operations now Todd Boehly has stepped down as sporting director, and it is Christopher Vivell taking the lead on this one.

Jacobs said: “A final word on Todd Boehly, who has recently surrendered his interim sporting director title. This means the day-to-day (at least in January) of transfers will be handled by Christopher Vivell and Paul Winstanley.

“Not a lot will actually change, except Vivell and Winstanley will split the workload typically associated with a sporting director. This means they will be involved (and often leading on) in negotiations. Vivell, for example, is the person exploring signing Marcus Thuram for January.”
