The next piece of Chelsea’s squad puzzle has fallen into place.
After an intense week of negotiations and rumours about interest in Lyon’s Malo Gusto things went very quiet – and as we suspected, that was because a deal was close.
David Ornstein has just Tweeted that the Blues have reached an agreement with the French club for the 19 year old, with a fee of €30m plus add-ons some way north of what Chelsea were willing to pay originally.
🚨 Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle with Lyon to sign right-back Malo Gusto for €30m + add-ons. 19yo France U21 int’l will remain with #OlympiqueLyonnais until end of season before joining #CFC in summer @TheAthleticFC after @FabriceHawkins https://t.co/qwArE3ApNc

It seems that Lyon did win on one front though – he will stay with them until the summer. He’s an important first team player, and the club president had assured fans on Twitter he wouldn’t leave in January – but clearly this was the compromise that all parties could agree to.
With Reece James almost back to full fitness, it seems the idea is to gamble on his fitness for the rest of the season, in return for a top prospect in the summer.
That’s good
Good signing for Chelsea , looking forward good work you are doing well done Chelsea FC
