Chelsea player ‘has no desire’ to sign a contract extension at the club

Chelsea have a number of pretty key players with contracts running down either at the end of this season, or the end of next season.

Either way, they need to start getting on top of some of the contract situations and make some decisions on players. We don’t want to be in the same situations we have faced in the last two seasons with the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen last season, and now Jorginho and N’Golo Kante this season. If we are not renewing contracts or getting a sense that a player has no desire to, then we must sell them as soon as possible.

Sources: Chelsea back in for Inter Milan defender!

Christian Pulisic has no desire to sign a new Chelsea contract extension as of now, according to The Athletic, and his contract runs out in 2024.

The report does state that Pulisic is happy at Chelsea and in London, but it’s more to do with not being a key player here. Chelsea could sell with an asking price of around £35m.

  1. Why would he want to stay, lol? The manager doesn’t appear to rate him. Supporters moan constantly that he needs to be sold. All he does is lead the squad in goals + assists per 90, but somehow he’s “inconsistent.” Despite negligible playing time over the last few months, all he’s done is go to the World Cup with the weight of the world on his shoulders (given that the US lacks a credible #9 and he’s been billed back home as America’s “soccer” savior since the age of seventeen) and he’s shown what he can do under a manager who believes in him—a goal and an assist in three games and safe passage out of the group stage for his team.

Seems to me the question Blues supporters should be asking isn’t “who can we get to take him off our hands,” but, rather, “why hasn’t Graham Potter been giving this guy more minutes?” But, hey, we’re the club that shipped off DeBruyne and Salah while flushing hundreds of millions down the drain on the likes of Torres, Morata, Schevchenko, Bakayoko, and Drinkwater (not to mention Lukaku?). So, yes, by all means let’s play to type and unload the most effective player in our anemic offense so that we can go overpay for the next hot commodity from a sexier footballing nation [eyeroll], lol!

    1. He’s not cut for the PL. He’s made of glass and he constantly gets bullied off the ball and spends a lot of time on the ground. You can say he leads Chelsea in goals + assists per 90 but when you play 10 games a year (exaggerated) that stat may be easier to win.

For the money that was spent on him and what his wages are, he’s not worth it. He would be better in la Liga/serie a/or back to bundesliga where it’s less physical and he can focus on his tactical side more

  2. My humble suggesting to Todd Boehly, Graham Potter is that if what am reading is true about Bailey not interested joinning Chelsea n Nico Williams too says he loves his club n not desire to leave then they should shift their attention to Joao Felix n the young Ghanaian star Mohamed Kudus who look dangerous in front of goal becos he’s very good when playing behind the striker so pairing him with Aubameyang in my view can help us achieve results.

  3. Biggest problem with the current manager is playing players out of position not knowing what his first team is and no real experience dealing with players of this calibre and new owners pretty much the same, having supported them since the sixties this is the worst I have seen the club with owners and managers out of their depth so sad

    1. Totally agree on the playing guys out of position (Sterling and Pulisic at wingback?!), though I have some sympathy for Potter considering all the injuries. Still, I feel like we keep looking for help in the wrong places.

For the last few years Utd kept buying attackers when it was the midfield where they lacked a world class difference maker. They went and got Casemiro and look a different (far scarier) team. With Kante constantly out and Kovacic currently nursing a long-term injury, we’re in a not dissimilar boat. Jorginho is a luxury we really can’t afford when those two aren’t healthy to cover form him defensively. We desperately need an upgrade in the middle of the park and yet we keep talking about replacing the wingers. Why?

  4. Can’t see why have sympathy with Potter I bet if you asked any Premier League Manager would you like the squad of players Chelsea have I think they would bite your hand off, there are some players who are struggling but in the main you have a group of good players, and with Boehly he has not got the power and talk otherwise we would not be struggling to get players to sign for us, still maintain the club is not in a good place while Boehly and Potter stay in charge, so so sad
