Clues revealed to which position Graham Potter might select Denis Zakaria

Chelsea had a transfer deadline day scramble around to sign a new midfielder in the summer and in the end, it was Denis Zakaria who arrived on loan from Juventus.

Many people have since compared the move to Saul Niguez, who arrived on loan in a similar deadline day story the year before and soon become a flop at the club.

You can understand the similarities here, but Zakaria will be determined not to flop and will be keen to play as much as he can.

But what is his best position? Well, I think that is still up for debate and it looks like Graham Potter is experimenting in training and behind closed doors matches right now to try and find this out.

The Athletic have an extensive article on this today and looking where he might play, and there are some clues from the next quote within this as to where we might see Zakaria for Chelsea.

They say: “It should not be a surprise that Chelsea’s new head coach Graham Potter was keen to get a look at Zakaria as a No 8 in last weekend’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion. His experience playing as a central defender offers another potential route into the team, even if the squad at Stamford Bridge is well stocked in that area.”
