Chelsea hold positive talks to hire new sporting director

The search continues for Chelsea to find a new sporting director after a few very frustrating weeks for the new owners.

They have been trying hard to get their number one target, former Liverpool director Michael Edwards. But that seems almost impossible for now at least. Then they were very close to announcing RB Salzburg’s Christophe Freund as their new sporting director but he pulled out at the last minute after a change of heart.

Sources: There are people on the new Chelsea board who really want to bring Declan Rice back to Chelsea!

Next up, is Bayer Leverkusen’s Tim Steidten, according to a recent report from The Guardian. The report claims that Chelsea have held a new round of positive talks with Steidten after being impressed with his use of data.

The 43-year-old was appointed as Leverkusen’s squad planner in 2019 and became the Bundesliga club’s sporting director last summer.

Chelsea have been keen to hire a new sporting director who has expertise in data-led scouting for transfer targets.
