Chelsea were involved in a battle to try and sign Everton winger Anthony Gordon in the summer just gone.
I say battle, but really it was only Chelsea who were seriously trying to sign him and the only battle was with Everton, who of course wanted to keep their top player.
Chelsea seemed intent on trying to bring the England U21 international to Stamford Bridge and clearly his head was turned by the interest.
However, Gordon has revealed that he was never desperate to leave Everton and would not say he was devastated that he wasn’t allowed to leave, in comments cited below.
Anthony Gordon on remaining at Everton amid #Chelsea interest:
"Because the place is so good, it’s not a place where I’m devastated because I have to stay. That’s never been the case. I was never desperate to leave Everton. It was definitely not the case."

It is unclear whether Chelsea will decide to make another move to sign Gordon again in one of the next few transfer windows, but it is clear that Everton will have a much bigger battle to keep their young starlet moving forward as he continues to develop.
