Chelsea ‘to gauge a feeling on Wesley Fofana’ after pulling out of Jules Kounde deal

Chelsea are still working to try and sign at least one more centre back this summer, with Thomas Tuchel ideally wanting two more.

But that looks like a near impossible task right now with time running out in the market, and Tuchel might have to settle with just one new centre back arriving, and then perhaps focusing more on a versatile full back, or handing trust to Levi Colwill or Ethan Ampadu, who he already has in the ranks.

Jules Kounde looks like he is now destined to join Barcelona this summer, with Chelsea backing off that deal yesterday. So attentions will turn to other targets, and according to Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, The Blues will probably contact Leicester City to gauge a feeling on Wesley Fofana due to their need to sell players.

Fofana recently signed a new deal with Leicester, so you can’t imagine this would be a cheap deal. But it’s worth exploring due to their circumstances.

  1. Fofana recently signed a new 5 yr deal. No chance will Leicester sell a young player who will have huge value in a few years time. Leicester need to get 1 or 2 high earners off the pay roll (Tielemans, Schmeichel) but are not in need of selling off younger talent who are not on high wages like Fofana. Chelsea look elsewhere.

  2. Wes signed a new 5 year deal last month. We won’t be selling him, he clearly is happy.
Of course if Chelsea offered his value…say a quarter of a billion pound, who knows?
