“I can reveal” – Fabrizio Romano names potential Romelu Lukaku replacement

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported one potential target that Chelsea could look at to replace Romelu Lukaku this summer.

As we are all aware of by now, Lukaku looks dead set on a return to Inter Milan this transfer window and the deal looks like to should be done very soon.

Thomas Tuchel pushing to sign defender he once worked with.

Many names have been linked as potential replacements for Lukaku, and Romano has been speaking about one in particular in his column on Caught Offside this morning.

He says that Chelsea have followed RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku for a long time now and he is certainly an option. However, his club are determined to keep him and his large price could be a stumbling block.

“So far Leipzig have not received any offers from Arsenal for Christopher Nkunku, but I can reveal that Chelsea have been following him for some time,” Romano said. “Still, the price is over €100m because Leipzig want to try to keep him at all costs, and could even offer him a new contract this summer. Of course, Chelsea have problems up front with Romelu Lukaku, so it’s not surprising Nkunku could be seen as a replacement, but for now there’s not much to report.”

It’s certainly an interesting one to keep an eye on because he is a link that just doesn’t seem to go away. If Chelsea put enough pressure on it then they might be able to convince his club to lower the fee. However, I still don’t think Chelsea will want to pay anything close to what is being quoted for him.
