Thiago Silva reveals the Chelsea player who wrote to him to wish him luck when he first joined

Thiago Silva’s move to Chelsea has just gone from amazing to perfection since he arrived as a free agent a couple of seasons back.

Frank Lampard bought him in and I even remember reading some doubts about signing a player so old.

Those concerns were soon brushed aside as it was clear we had got one of the best current defenders in world football regardless of his age.

What we were also getting was experience, leadership, and influence, being a former PSG captain as well as captain of the national team.

He’s worn the armband for Chelsea as well on occasions but most of the time he is behind both Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho, and Silva respects that.

He also very much admires Azpilicueta as a captain, with some recent words on the Chelsea website.

Silva reveals how the club captain wrote to him to wish him good luck when he joined the club.

“As soon as I arrived, Azpilicueta was one of the first to write to me wishing me good luck in this new chapter,” revealed Silva.

“He is a spectacular guy, a super professional who undoubtedly deserves to be where he is and wear the armband, which means so much to him.

“There are different types of captains: there are those who talk more, and others who are quieter but mean a lot to the team. Azpilicueta has both aspects: he is very important on the field, and outside he brings the team together when necessary to talk about what is necessary and to make things clear so they don’t go wrong.”
