At half time of tonight’s game, Chelsea were winning but playing badly. Hakim Ziyech, who had scored and not celebrated, then argued with Romelu Lukaku as they came off the pitch. It was a bizarre scene for a team who should have been motivated and energised – and happy.
It was a bad look, and predictably the home team scored in the second half to take advantage of Chelsea’s evident low morale.
Thomas Tuchel has played it down since, and it didn’t look particularly personal, but it’s just not what you expect from a team going in at the break 1-0 up.
