To be fair to Chelsea, the decision to send Ben Chilwell to surgery only came late in December, and if he didn’t need surgery he would have been back much sooner than the end of this season.
However, that is pretty much the only thing I can write in their defence as we now hit the end of January the 7th and Chelsea are still no closer to adding another wing back to the squad, even though Marcos Alonso is still the only fit recognised one left in the squad after Reece James also went down injured for the next 7ish weeks.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano today, Chelsea are still ‘deciding’ what to do on the left wing back situation, and seemingly are in no rush at all to add another wing back to an already depleted squad as we play on through a crucial point in the season.
Lucas Digne will leave Everton, never been in doubt. Three Premier League clubs interested, next week will be key – Chelsea are still waiting to decide on LB situation. 🇫🇷 #EFC
Again, Digne will not join Newcastle. No way – and Lille are still hoping to keep Sven Botman. #NUFC pic.twitter.com/fbuQ7gaoDy
