Chelsea scout: “People will write books about” the Chelsea academy

Chelsea’s academy is known as one of the best in world football, and you only have to look at their current squad to see why.

Players such as Reece James, Mason Mount, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all graduated from the famous academy to become regulars in the first team squad over the last couple of seasons, and there are loads more coming up through the ranks behind them, and even those before them.

Both Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are doing well over in Italy making good careers for themselves, and you haven’t got to look far to find another Cobham success story.

Caught Offside have been speaking to Chelsea scout, Sean Conlon, who is naturally very proud and passionate of the work they do in the academy.

Conlon has scouted a number of the current academy crop looking to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Mount and James, and he says they are so successful due to the culture at the club.

“I think [the success of academy] it’s a lot to do with the culture at Chelsea,” said Conlon.

“They have an incredible organisation that I think in the future people will write books about, I think that highly of Chelsea’s academy.

“The Premier League clubs see how well Chelsea in particular are benefiting from young English players coming through, so they want to keep pumping money into making sure we have the best academies in the world.

“The culture at Chelsea is that we never stand still, we always want to be better.”
