Chelsea have had a lot of injuries accumulating through the last month or so, so the international break came at a good time to get a number of players back to fitness – or close to it.
Thomas Tuchel has just had his pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester game tomorrow, and he started with an update on the fitness of multiple players, as recorded in a transcript of the speech by Football.London.
Here are the key takeaways:
Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic are definitely out for tomorrow’s game. Lukaku is close to returning to team training, Kovacic is a few days further back.
Timo Werner is training with the team, and there’s another session later today to see whether he can sit on the bench tomorrow.
Christian Pulisic has had good minutes with the national team and could even be fit to start.
Thiago Silva will be physically fit, but may be tired after travel.
Mason Mount is back in training looking “hungry and fresh.”
So it’s a mixed bag, but it sounds like we’re a week or so away from having the whole squad fit and firing again at last.
