“It helped us” – Jorginho says Thomas Tuchel made vital tactical ‘change’ at half time vs Newcastle

It took two second half goals from Reece James for Chelsea to break the deadlock against Newcastle United on Saturday to beat the relegation strugglers 3-0 in their own back yard.

The Blues really struggled to break down a stubborn and negative Newcastle setup in the first half as they defended deep with a low block and had no interest in doing anything else other than defending.

Chelsea controlled the game but they could not find that creative power or finesse in the final third to unlock The Magpies defence.

They went in at half time and it was a little frustrating, but according to Blues midfielder Jorginho, who was captaining the side in the absence of Cesar Azpilicueta, Thomas Tuchel made a ‘little change’ at half time in the offensive department that helped Chelsea on the pitch and helped them find the important goals to end up thrashing their opponents.

“In the second half, the coach did a little change tactically in the offensive phase and it helped us on the pitch to find more solutions,” Jorginho told the Chelsea website.
