“Is not easy” – Jorginho explains what Chelsea did well against Newcastle in tough circumstances

We all had those same feelings in at half time during our match against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon, we all thought it was going to be one of those days.

Newcastle setup very negatively and had no intentions to attack Chelsea other than the odd weak-efforted counter attack. But these were sniffed out fast by Chelsea, giving them absolutely no breathing space.

And this is exactly what Blues midfielder Jorginho believes that his side did so well on Saturday in tough circumstances.

He was pleased with their counter-pressing when they lost the ball in order to stop any little threat that Newcastle might have carried on the counter attack.

This then allowed Chelsea to stay patient and search hard for the goal breaking down a stubborn low block defence from the home side.

The Italian international has been talking about the 3-0 win on the Chelsea website, and he’s explained what they did so well.

“It was hard because they were defending well and there wasn’t much space to find a pass or to run with the ball,” Jorginho said.

“They were defending very well with all 11 players in 20 or 25 metres but we kept pushing, we kept pressing and counter-pressing when we lost the ball, and we had control of the whole game, which is what we tried to do.

“To not allow Newcastle to have a counter-attack here in their stadium is not easy and we did that so I think we did a good job.”
