“Help of the whole team” – Humble Jorginho credits team mates for his Ballon d’Or podium success

I’m sure it was impossible to miss it, but last night saw the 2021 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, which was presented by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

The awards, usually for individual success, are considered the most prestigious in world football, and the winner was Lionel Messi again this year.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

Chelsea had a great representation in the awards this year, with 5 players in the nominations, as a club as well, we were also crowned club of the year in what was a brand new award this year for the first time ever.

N’Golo Kante came in 5th spot, and his midfield partner Jorginho came in 3rd place making the podium, which is an incredible achievement.

He only missed out to Messi and Robert Lewandowski, who came second in the awards.

The Italian international has had a fantastic year, especially over the summer winning the Champions League with Chelsea and the Euros with his country.

He has reacted via the Chelsea website, and says:

“I am very happy but I achieved this not by myself but with the help of the whole team, so I’m just really grateful for that and I’m really happy and proud of myself and proud of the whole group and proud of this team because we deserve it, all together.

“I always say the first thing we need to think about is the group, the team. We need to put that at the front and then comes the individuals, so when we have an amazing group like this that works together, is really humble, always smiling, trying to help each other then of course the results come and you have awards.

“I will not be able to achieve this without the work of the whole team, so this well-deserved because of the work of the team that we did all together, because if it was just me then that would not have happened.

“Now we have a lot to play for, which keeps us working hard to try to win trophies, because they are what this club is about.”
