Thomas Tuchel gives his verdict on Timo Werner and Kepa Arrizabalaga after Cup win

Chelsea march on into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, beating Aston Villa on penalties at Stamford Bridge last night.

Next up, another Premier League opponent in the shape of Southampton, the same team they play next weekend in the league.

Last night was a very tough match for a second string Chelsea side, and it will be exactly the same again in the fourth round against The Saints.

Thomas Tuchel used the opportunity to rest many of his key players and give a number of his fringe players some vital minutes on the field, and that obviously made things tougher last night.

But his second string are still full of talent, and Timo Werner was one of those that stepped up last night with a lovey headed goal.

“We brought him into a situation where he can score, this is what we want, and then it’s on him to score. That’s why he is here. It’s the best feeling for a striker to score,”  Tuchel told the Chelsea website.

Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga also got the nod in the sticks once again, and he pulled off a number of good saves in the match, including a big one to help Chelsea win the shoot out.

‘Kepa is very strong at penalties. He has good experiences in shoot-outs so we focused on that, and tried our best.

“I’m happy the players kept their cool. It’s a nice win and I’m happy because it was a tough match, a hard cup fight, and it’s a good feeling to win,” Tuchel concluded.
