Chelsea reporter explains why the club are selling Marc Guehi

It appears that Chelsea defender Marc Guehi is on the verge of joining Crystal Palace on a permanent deal this window.

Of course, the news split fans opinions and there was a lot of frustration from Chelsea supporters who believed that Guehi would be given a chance in the first team either this season or in the near future.

I personally believe Guehi could have come in to replace Kurt Zouma this summer, IF he leaves the club.

However, it appears it is simply just a case of Guehi himself wanting regular first team football now, and not being comfortable going on another loan move, which is more than understandable in terms of gaining stability in his life and his career.

The deal also looks like it was just too good for Chelsea to turn down, especially implicating the option to sign him back one day, or at least match any offer made for him.

Chelsea reporter Sam Inkersole from Football London, breaks it down well here for Football Fancast:

“There are probably players that Chelsea would have preferred to have got shot of this summer but, by all accounts, the offer was too good to turn down.

“He enhanced his reputation at Swansea and I think it’s more a case of he wasn’t guaranteed Premier League minutes at Chelsea and another loan deal wasn’t necessarily what he wanted.

“Palace have come in with a really good offer for him and Chelsea have reluctantly accepted it. It’s a shame because it’s another academy graduate that has fallen by and I’ve seen a fair bit of reaction to Guehi going which is not the best.”
