Mason Mount responds to fans booing England off in Scotland stalemate

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount was involved in a pretty lacklustre England performance on Friday night, although he was perhaps the only one that wasn’t abysmal on the night.

These games happen in football and it is entirely normal for players and teams to not be at the races, but I think it was the manner in which England played that frustrated people, as well as only managing a 0-0 draw.

They were playing against their closest local rivals Scotland, for only the second time ever in a major tournament, and they were so lethargic it often looked like they were playing in a training match. They didn’t show any desire or fight to want to win the match, and in the end some England fans got frustrated after paying a lot of their hard earned cash and some traveling miles to get there and support the team.

You can understand them feeling aggrieved, whether you agree with booing or not.

Mount has responded to the booing, via The Metro.

He said:

“I’ve had a lot of boos in my short career so that’s obviously from away fans or home fans,’ he said.

“We focus on ourselves, how we can improve, what areas of our game we can do better at.

“The perfection that we want is going to be tough to get better. We put pressure on ourselves to be perfect.

“We want to make the country proud and hopefully next game we can do that.

“We know what we’ve prepared.

“Fans want to see us attack al the time but sometimes you have to manage the game and keep the ball.

“The Scotland game was frantic at times and sometimes you have to control the ball, build possession. That’s part of football.”
