Timo Werner feels ‘guilty’ for Frank Lampard sacking

There will be many regrets from many players, coaches, and Frank Lampard himself about how his Chelsea reign came to an end this season.

Things he did do, things he didn’t do, players who could have done better, etc etc.

Could Tammy Abraham leave Chelsea this summer? With clubs circling, find out the latest here.

But Chelsea have since moved on with Thomas Tuchel, and largely there has been no looking back since as they concentrate on getting in the Champions League spots this season, which of course is always priority.

However, striker Timo Werner has been looking back on it and feels guilty for Lampard being sacked, being the main man bought in to get goals, and not producing on the pitch for Lampard.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Werner says that if he’d scored four or five more goals under Lampard, then he may still be in charge at the club.

“When you come here to play as a striker and be the man to score the goals, of course I felt a little bit guilty that I missed so many chances. For the club, for the old manager but also for me because I want to score all the time and as much as I possibly can.

“Of course, if I’d scored four or five more goals maybe the old manager would still be here because we’d maybe have won two or three games more but you can’t look too much into the past because there are too many games ahead of us.”

But as he rightly says at the end of that sentence, there is no point looking back now and dwelling on the past. We just need him to come up with the goals now!
