Thomas Tuchel: Olivier Giroud ‘trains like a 20-year-old’ and ‘is a big factor for the group’

Chelsea were very close to losing Olivier Giroud during these last few transfer windows, with the veteran striker considering his options to try somewhere else for more first team football.

However, a move did not transpire, and Chelsea, in particular Thomas Tuchel, are fully thankful and reaping the rewards for this now.

Chelsea are serious about signing Erling Haaland this summer and will ‘go all out for him’, find out more here.

The World Cup winner fired Chelsea into a 1-0 lead in their Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid last night grabbing that all important away goal to take back to Stamford Bridge on March the 17th.

Giroud put in a man of the match performance, and of course his goal was world class.

Tuchel says Giroud ‘trains like a 20-year old’ and he is ‘a big factor’ in the group. This is not surprising at all for such a high quality and highly professional player and person.

With his contract ending this summer, I am sure that Tuchel, Giroud, and the Chelsea board will now be thinking hard about this situation.

As reported by Football London, Giroud said:

“If you see him on a daily basis, you cannot be surprised. He is totally fit, his body is in shape and his physicality is on top level.

“Mentally I have really the feeling he enjoys every day being a professional soccer player on this level and this is the level he needs to be. He trains like a 20-year-old, like a 24-year-old. He is a guy who has a good mixture of seriousness and joy in training. He is always positive and it is a big factor for the group.

“He starts, when he comes from the bench, he has all these qualities and it is good like this.”
