Frank Lampard explains why Mason Mount may not be popular with the modern fan

Chelsea are getting set to travel up to Newcastle for the early Premier League kick off on Saturday, and Blues boss Frank Lampard has been addressing the media ahead of the match.

There has been a lot of talk surrounding the criticism and abuse that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount receives from some Blues fans and England fans.

It has become a real topic of debate, with Mount seemingly in some of the form of his life, which makes it all rather odd.

Lampard believes he has the answer as to why Mount is targeted by what he calls ‘the modern fan.’

He believes that because Mount doesn’t do step overs and flicks, this is maybe why he isn’t as exciting to the modern day fan.

It was quite an entertaining answer from Lampard and he may have a point. Mount is the type of player that does it all, the dirty work as well as the attacking stuff. But for me, this just makes him an even better and more well-rounded player.

You need players like Mount in the team.
