Chelsea ‘were not in the race to sign Thomas Partey’ this summer

There was a bit of a deadline day story that bubbled up ever so slightly during this summer’s transfer window.

It never really grew legs, but Chelsea had an interest in signing Thomas Partey, the midfielder that Arsenal were trying to sign, and of course did end up signing.

Chelsea’s interest was confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on his latest Here We Go Podcast this week.

However, Romano also confirmed that although they were interest, Chelsea ‘were not in the race to sign Thomas Partey’ during this transfer window.

He confirmed that Chelsea were only focusing on their main targets for each area (in this case, Declan Rice), and if they could not sign them, then they would settle for what they have already.

This also reiterates the fact that Chelsea are likely to go back in for Rice again this January when the winter transfer window opens, seeing as he is still a main target.
