Ben Chilwell has withdrawn from the England squad thanks to a recurrence of a foot injury that has bothered him all summer, according to the Chelsea official website.
The left back had only made his Premier League debut for the Blues in their last game, where he picked up a goal and assist. Fans were excited to see him in action again this weekend, but that now looks unlikely.

There is always the chance this is purely precautionary with another England match lined up for tomorrow, but it’s hard to imagine the former Leicester player would have withdrawn from the whole squad unless it was a fairly significant issue.
All we can do now is wait for Frank Lampard’s press conference on Friday to find out more about how severe the issue is, and whether there’s any chance Chilwell is fit to face Southampton.
