Rennes captain admits Edouard Mendy is off to Chelsea

We’ve heard increasing whispers about Edouard Mendy of Rennes coming to Chelsea this summer to be our new goalkeeper, but so far the sources haven’t extended beyond the fantasies of internet rumour writers.

That’s all changed today however, as we have quotes from the French team’s captain which pretty much confirm everything we’ve heard so far as true.

Damien Da Silva, in a radio clip you hear below in French, says that he’s happy for his teammate, but sad to lose such a good goalkeeper.

“It’s part of football and the transfer market” he mused in what sounds like quite a defeated manner.

Telefoot, who conducted the interview, set the price at €20m, although it could presumably go a lot higher including bonuses.

That sounds like a good deal to us, given the limited time we had to find and secure a new stopper.

Let’s get him into training as soon as possible! There are just days until our next game left.
