Chelsea’s attempt to sign Edouard Mendy from Rennes has had similar shades of the Kai Havertz saga.
Despite many sources reporting that the deal is all but done, reports were circulating yesterday that the 28-year old goalkeeper had rejoined Rennes training.
Édouard Mendy returned to training with Rennes today – still no agreement found with Chelsea – SRFC are now seeking to include Fikayo Tomori in the deal. https://t.co/Bp6tasbDsH

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that “Mendy to Chelsea is done!” on The Byline Podcast yesterday, which was recorded on Wednesday morning.
Romano said that Mendy will arrive to compete with Kepa Arrizabalaga for the number one spot at Chelsea and the hold up in negotiations was simply down to small details being changed, and Mendy WILL become a Chelsea player.
"Mendy to Chelsea is DONE! He will fight for the position of number one at Chelsea. It was the same with Havertz, just some small details being changed. Mendy will be a Chelsea player."

The drawn out deal hasn’t quite had the same theme as the Havertz deal, with that one going on for months without conclusion.
But naturally, it is likely that Rennes want to make it known that they are no pushovers in negotiations and making it seem like they play hardball.
