Chelsea pair named on Young Player of the Year shortlist

Chelsea pair Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the year award.

They are up against some pretty stiff competition, and it’s hard to see anyone getting past Liverpool phenomenon Trent Alexander-Arnold in the race for this particular award.

But the Blues pair more than deserve their place on the list. One could argue that they were more integral to their team’s success than Bukayo Saka was for Arsenal, and Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford for Manchester United, which would put them effectively second and third on the list behind TAA.

Abraham’s form tailed off towards the end of the season but his overall contribution to the team was huge. Mount had his own dip, but was generally one of our most consistent and effective players, picking up plenty of assists and goals as we beat expectations to finish 4th.

Both were under 21 at the start of the season, making them eligible for this award.
