What’s funny about the coronavirus break is that it’s pushed the summer back into the period when the season would usually have started already.
So instead of “on this day” posts on social media being about player signings, they’re actually back into goals from the first weeks of the season in years gone by.
Today’s is a Chelsea classic you’ve seen in countless compilations. Back in 2000, Mario Stanic burst through midfield on the opening day of a nascent Premier League season and unleashed this rocket volley into the top corner.
It was without doubt the greatest thing he even did in a Blue shirt, and maybe in his whole career.
