Chelsea likely to sign cheaper goalkeeper with other deals closing in

It appears that Chelsea are closing in on two big money signings, and there could be even more.

As per The Times, Chelsea have made a breakthrough with Leicester regarding signing their left back Ben Chilwell this window.

Chelsea are also in the final stages of negotiating a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen, as reported on The Byline podcast last night.

These will both be fairly big money deals, and Chelsea also have other potential big money deals on their minds strengthening the defence.

So where does that leave the goalkeeper situation?

Well, as funds are not unlimited despite Chelsea being in a comfortable position, Blues fans should expect one of the cheaper linked goalkeepers arriving, rather than Jan Oblak for example.

As per Sky Sports, Oblak is on Chelsea’s shortlist alongside Andre Onana from Ajax, and Nick Pope from Burnley.

But it is the latter two that are more likely to be pursued by Chelsea with the amount of money being spent elsewhere.

I would also not be surprised if Ben Foster is pursued from Watford as an even cheaper option.
