New Chelsea signing ‘similar to Vardy’ and a ‘big threat to defenders’

Jamie Vardy has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League over recent years, and he is a scary prospect for defenders to face up against.

Chelsea centre back Antonio Rudiger has had more than enough experiences trying to deal with the former England international, so he knows exactly the threat he can be.

For a player to be compared with the Leicester City man, then you know they are a real talent.

This is what Rudiger has done for Chelsea’s new striker arriving this summer, Timo Werner.

The Blues defender obviously knows Werner very well having played with him many times before at club level and at international level for Germany, so he knows exactly what Chelsea have got in their new marquee signing.

He talks about the dangers that his pace can bring and how he is a ‘very big threat to defenders’, in the same way that Vardy has been with his pace in recent times.

Rudiger told the Chelsea website:

“He’s a really big threat to defenders.

“RB Leipzig is a more counter-attacking team but in terms of attacking the defensive line, he’s similar to Vardy. He has a lot of pace and if the defender makes a mistake and loses the ball, then he goes!”

“I would say he’s a quiet, humble guy, always ready to do better,’ Rudiger added of Werner’s personality off the pitch. ‘I hope he adapts very quickly when he comes because as we all know this competition is different than others.”
