Chelsea consider signing experienced Bayern Munich defender

Chelsea have largely been linked with signing attacking players and have already agreed to sign two in the shape of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

There has not been a lot of talk about defenders coming in, and this is surprising when you consider how poor Chelsea’s defence has been at times this season.

They conceded another silly goal against Aston Villa on their first game back after lock down last weekend, which again reiterated that they might well need to be looking at signing another centre back.

It was revealed yesterday that they have actually been doing this.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea have explored the possibility of acquiring David Alaba from Bayern Munich in recent months but were given short shrift.

The 28-year old Austrian international could bring needed experience and versatility to Frank Lampard’s squad, and he would be seen as a very smart signing for The Blues if they could pull it off.
